Conservatory: A life of dirt, debris and the ensuing path to removal of countryside grime that can sometimes turn out to be a poetic story.
Conservatory Dirt and Debris
I look out of the window and what do I see
Well, not a great deal,
Very little of the garden cannot be seen
Every window pane is covered in dew
The overnight chill made it misty
But that’s not such a bad thing
I’ll just get my squeegee
I’ve got a few minutes
I could go outside and clear the yuk and goo
No spraying or scrubbing,
The dirt will slide off easily
If I grab a cloth, wipe down the frame
Keep moving the ladder
For the next bit of the game
Within thirty minutes the whole conservatory
Is really marvellous, so grand again
I considered
Cleaning the roof
But the gutter would get filled up
With all of the moss and debris
Also, the birds love what is rubbish to me,
It’s full of bugs that are a tasty treat
The moss is good for nesting too
When spring abounds
I watched them land, grab a full beak-
Then off they flew
They did that repeatedly
If I leave it for now, then next year
It will give those birds a quick free feast
So, for now it can stay
It’s such a pain to get the ladder out anyway
But in a few months,
I could spend half a day
Getting up that ladder
And dragging it all away
We both know
It’ll be good exercise
Climbing up and down the ladder
Fleet as can be hehe
Gently scraping away everything mucky
That clings steadfast to the glass roof
Of my conservatory
Until that day I shall
Occasionally sit on the swing
Sip my cup of tea
Mull over everything
Gather my thoughts, pondering gently
About which memories are easiest
And don’t cause me grief
They are the ones I can write
Systematically,
They include love, laughter
And other types of dirt,
Sometimes even fleas
Some may tell you about
My website building experience
There are some poems there already
So, it’s a possibility, also
There are all kinds of things
That can be written about
Like driving down the lane
And
Would you believe
The main route through the village
To the nearest town
Is completely closed for everyone,
A diversion is likely
It’s probably for repairs that are routine
It’s irritating and will be a complete pain
Because other ways in and out
Are narrow lanes
It becomes more of a nuisance
When the A2 stops running
That’s it’s usual claim to fame
Absolutely no-one likes that game
Never mind,
I shall stay at home today,
I’m not desperate for shopping anyway
Maybe I’ll upload a poem or two
If I load them right away
That will take several hours out of my day
I scrutinise everything completely
Making sure it’s all how I like it to be
Do I have some kind of OCD
Yes, I know I have photos,
They need to be added too
But occasionally none of them suit
So, when I don’t have any ready
I find the best subjective view
So that at least the image is relevant
It would be daft if I wrote a poem
About a woodland view,
Added an unrelated image
Well, that would be poo
I hear you say
With all of the information
And the new tech today
Doesn’t everything get edited
As if by magic, possibly AI
That might be for others but not me
I write my poem,
Type, upload and add everything
Find the right image, add script and publish
That can take all day, easily
For you to read just one
Of my poems all the way through
Well, you’re probably talking
Five minutes maximum
So, that said, may I take this opportunity
To thank all of you properly
For taking the time
Out of your busy day
To appreciate my poetry
ColourMine as you must have seen
Is a growing entity
With lots of different poetry
If you have just a few minutes
Then please join me, with your drink
Some day
We might even get to meet
It won’t be today
I’m slightly busy I’m sorry to say
Writing is a major thing
I see it, I memorise and eventually get my pen
Firstly, I write then I let it breathe
I read it through out loud
It’s got to make sense you see
Now it’s just you, ColourMine and me
With AssTea lazily resting
On the seat beside me
Before I go,
I read it through in its entirety
Then go indoors, start the process again,
You might one day hear me,
Read one of my poems
On YouTube or maybe in a public venue
In the meantime,
Merry Christmas from me and the crew
ColourMine, AssTea, the animals, birds and bugs
The swing seat and the conservatory
We’re all pleased to send you
Season’s Greetings.
I wish you also a Happy New Year.
Having removed all the dirt and grime
From this present year.
I lift my glass, the Asti bubbling gently
Everyone here wishes you cheers.
Let’s celebrate, us and ColourMine,
Let’s all shout out loud,
Happy New Year!
