Dating | Looks like a man, uncertainty of a child

Written by Susan Lane SLCM Keeper of ColourMine

Dating: The dating scene has really changed since my early days but that doesn’t mean I don’t have enough pride to say you can’t take the P out of me, I’ve given myself permission to make my own decisions, to date my own way, so don’t be thinking yours is the only game to play, hehe.

Dating in February 2026

I’m not really sure he’s in to me
Because I’ve only seen him once a week
For a few weeks
Also, he barely messages me
He shows care in other ways
He makes lots of conversation, he seems to be good
He’s into DIY, electronics and cars you see
Tells me lots about himself and his family
Although when we’re together and we speak

I just get this feeling, a niggling doubt
I definitely get the feeling he cannot make up his mind
What he wants in life at this point in time
Maybe later he will decide that it’s me
But by that time, I will have wandered off free
And found someone who actually makes a decision
That yes, he definitely wants to be with me

This present one, I’m definitely going to leave

Far too immature for me
Can’t even verbalise or reassure me
The things he finds attractive
Just leaves me to guess, but that’s okay I suppose
At least I now won’t end up with a relationship
That will over time become completely gross

Everything about him now
Makes me think that all along
Maybe he’s been playing me
Not really interested in seeing if I’m really
The kind of person that he needs
So, therefore I’m going to consider another offer for me
Even though they’re in the same age bracket
It won’t necessarily be a repeat
And if it does then maybe, the problem is me?

Quite possibly I need to play the same game

Just say hello then consider that possibly
Once a week I’ll get laid
You know, friends with benefits
I don’t know if that could work for me
No strings just occasional company
It doesn’t actually sound like me
But obviously it’s a possibility
And I could go home to eat and drink
Plus, it would completely de-stress me, hehe

But it still leaves the question,
Does any man want a future with me?
If he doesn’t then I’ll let him be
Why waste my time
On a child who looks like an adult
He’s obviously got loads of maturing
Before he becomes someone suitable for me

Now here’s another question,

Where’s my cup of tea
I think I need it whilst my mind wanders free
Now, having drunk my cup of tea,
I’ve come to a decision
I’m not going to worry unnecessarily
I’ll just let the play continue along today
If he decides he wants to see me,
Then I’ll say yes and invite him for a cup of tea

If he doesn’t arrive then that’ll be a shame
Although I shall still be me
And I know that maybe out in the big wide world
There will be someone ideally suited
With the same outlook, not pretending
Just wanting something genuine, just like me

Until then I’ll continue to sit in my garden

Gently sway on my swing,
And mull over everything with
Yet another refreshing hot cup of tea
Now won’t you join me for a read
Of a ColourMine poem hehe.
