The ColourMine Grass Patch
This poem is from the perspective of a rather fed-up ColourMine garden resident. It’s been a long, dry season, and the struggle for survival is real. But when the rain won’t come, you learn to get creative – and cheeky. Especially if you can live under the Acer tree.
It’s such a shame to look at me
I’m nothing like my former glory
A vibrant bright green I used to be
Now I’m a rotten brown
All scrubby, I’m feeling so down
That’s not good I hear you say
But neither would you be if you looked
The way I do, all full of gloom
In places I’m almost dirt you see
Like someone has stomped all over me
That’s what happens
When you spend all day in the sun
I wish it would rain, just a tiny bit,
That would be fun
Just enough to brighten my hue
A few shades more, that would do,
Then I’ll be more of a vibrant green
I’ll look fabulous, more like me,
So very proud to be seen
I’m looking forward to
When my colours glow
With everything natural
Starting from down below
All the water from above
Gives me a beautiful gleam
It’s always good when
That water replenishes me
And the lady of the house
Has to cut me and not just the weeds
But it’s been that kind of year
Lots of growth but only the weeds here
They are doing really well
They always do better than me
Except for under that beautiful tree
In the Shade of the ColourMine Tree
Under there we’re both the same
Well, I say the same, but we’re not
It’s actually better for me
Those pesky weeds don’t do so well
In the lovely shade, hehe
I’m so glad to be able to stretch my fingers
Out under that Acer tree
It’s beautiful and cool
And lets me be a nice shade of green
I don’t even need much water
Under there you see,
Because I nick the moisture
Before it gets to the tree
The lady of the house calls it dew
I don’t care what it’s called
I told the tree “It’s me before you”
Strangely enough he didn’t agree
And spread his even longer fingers
Out below me
It doesn’t really matter when the lady mows
Because I settle back
With the beginnings of the gorgeous
ColourMine after glow
