Written by Susan Lane
After a long childminding session, my trusty Suzuki was waiting to take me home. What followed was a snowy adventure neither of us expected.
The Suzuki Car in the Snow
Doing well until today,
Suzuki Vitara SZ5 is my name
I am a diesel I’m proud to say
I can be 4-wheel drive
You just have to say
But this is optional,
If my lady of the house needs me to be
She did once, it shocked me
But I’m please, to say
It was good because
When we went out it was dry but cold
Before we came home
The snow had started to fall
Gentle snowflakes, almost nothing at all
Within 2 hours it was quite a fall
Four inches deep, that’s no mean feat
We went to go home the direct route,
It wasn’t good underfoot
Up a very steep hill for me
We went carefully
We got to the end of the estate
There was lots of traffic blocking my way
That wasn’t good
The downward hill towards home
Was quite a slippery mess
Lots of drivers seem to have no idea,
How to drive in snow, bless,
Or maybe, their car wasn’t 4-wheel drive
Perhaps they wanted to get home and hide
They were slipping and sliding all across the road
It was so dangerous and
Lots of people were getting in a mood
So, instead of the main roads
The lady of the house
Went the long way around,
Down the back roads you see
She knew where she was going, we were ok,
My 4-wheel drive got the chance to play
Someone got stuck, so we turned around
We found another way
Up and down hills with not so much as a sway
Oh god, I got stuck but no panic here,
My lady of the house
Soon shuftied out from there,
Around the single-track lanes we went
In snow 6 inches deep,
We trundled along heading for Meopham, Kent
Almost at Meopham
Slow and steady we went
A local town near us
With much wider roads
Which should be less of a groan
Meopham arrived, we were moving again,
The roads were clearer now
Still snow covered, but less dense
And some people you see,
Slowed down just in front of me
My lady was not happy, they got in the way,
She checked all around, and carried on going,
She didn’t want to be there all day
And was not going to stop
Because that’d be daft
And could cause a road block
So, we continued all the way home,
I’m the trusty 4-wheel drive
And my name, do you recall . . .
Yes, I am called the Suzuki Vitara SZ5
My lady, I could see she was pleased
To be on the drive and actually thanked me
No not verbally, that would be quite weird
But she sat quietly for a few moments
And sort of cheered
Then she carefully locked me up
And went indoors for a nice hot brew in a cup
