The Empty Pen
A pen can be so frustrating
Would you believe it I got near the end
My poem was feeling like a very good friend
My pen it ran out, no ink to be found
No matter how much I shook it around
No bloomin’ ink, how disastrous is that
My mood, quite buoyant suddenly went flat
I’ve got several others but they don’t feel quite right
The weight is wrong and they just don’t glide
Disaster Averted – Found
Ah, I found another pen, and just the right kind
Waaay deep in the back of a drawer
What a flippin’ bind
Straight onto paper the ideas flew
Ten poems later, oh my how they grew
The when it seemed there were no more to do
That was a joke because loads more
Were starting to fly through
I thought it was time to have a brew
Damn and blast even more were
Coming to see you
Well, I decided to make time for a cup of tea
I desperately needed to draw breath and go for a pee
Then when I thought no more would come
My pen called - the day wasn’t anywhere near done
This poetry lark was testing me
Because how wrong could I be
Thinking I was in charge
What an idiot, that was me
Everything was humming along nicely
The ideas are still running fast,
And I cannot believe
I’ve let a pen be in charge of me
But it’s ok, I’m having such a blast,
And it’s all thanks you know
To this new pen with the slightly fabulous glow
I’ll be here for a while yet I see, but
That’s ok because I’ve got plenty of tea
And if I get pushed, I’ve even got
A nice cold bottle of Asti in the fridge
Waiting for me, hehe.
