Night Heat
Oh my god, it was hot today
It was 28 degrees C
Way to hot for me
It’s like a sweat box indoors too
And there’s me
Sweating buckets like a fool
I open the windows
And let the night air in
To cool things down
I even have two fans on
To swish the air around
But nothing works you see
I’m still dripping wet
That’s disgusting I think
Maybe it’s time for a shower
What do you think?
Well, it’s not that bad
I hear you say
You could if you want
Get naked and feel free
Although that’s not so easy
For my duchess you see
Her triple fur coat although
Moulted down to two
Is so thick it won’t
Let any breeze through
I know they wear it all year round
And they cool off
When they lay on the ground
But that doesn’t help you see
When they’re in a room
That feels like 30 degrees C
When outside it’s now only 17.
After the Night Heat
We’re all so glad when morning comes
Although we’re not really rested you see
Because it was a rubbish night’s sleep
Tossing and turning, it was pretty bleak
But maybe today it will improve
There’s a slight breeze blowing
And it’s going right through
It’s going all through the house
It feels so good, it’s rustling my blouse
When I say blouse, I mean T-Shirt
But that didn’t rhyme but doesn’t matter
Because I wear both all the time
It’s always nice to have a choice you see
Of things you can wear in this heat
Although some kind of blouse is nice to wear
It’s a bit flimsy and might get damaged
If you don’t take care when sleeping
And it’ll make you all sticky too
Manmade fibres are not really good for you
I already know the thing to wear is a nice silk
But that’s not really for
Around the house every day wear
So now I’ll bid good day to you
Grab a cup of tea
And decide what to do
Maybe writing some poems
Then sit outside under a tree
Only for a little while
Because it doesn’t really gel with me
Far too hot even under a tree
But I’ll be back out later
When it’s not too hot for me
