Written by Susan Lane
My early-morning view of the garden
I stand in my conservatory and I see
All that hard graft waiting for me
The garden needs mowing
It needs weeding too
The hedges need a haircut
But it’s way too soon
The paths need sweeping, tidying too
There is grass and moss
It’s so absolutely filthy
I know you’d agree
If you saw
Those decorative stones
Looking back at me
They are dirty all the way through
I’m going to be very busy
All summer long, it’s true
I don’t want to do it
But it’s got to be done
It’s gorgeous when it’s tidy
Each job, one and all
Cleared and bagged
What a brilliant call!
Everything looks fabulous
I’m pleased to say
Ready for the company
Who may come my way
The company, whom I don’t invite
Such busy lives they lead
So, unfortunately,
On this occasion
It’s only me
Even though there’s lots
Of gardening jobs
There are also more
Other tasks that need to be viewed
It’s just amazing to see
The laundry is piling up willy-nilly
So, in between the different
Gardening tasks
That I’d rather not get to
I shall tackle maybe one or two
If I pop in a wash load
Get the dishwasher acting too
Then that’ll be a good start
Because then I can sit
Out in the garden with a cup of tea
And write some fabulous poetry
Now my poem is complete
The washing is ready
To hang out in the breeze
Out on the line to dry.
My Garden and Living Priorities
I’d best go
Sweep and tidy happily
Then after, such a shame,
That I shall have
To get out my blue lounger
And maybe fall asleep, hehe
Sitting, enjoying this lovely fresh air
Is such a treat
I’m going to grab a sandwich and
I could very well take a look
Because there might be
A cold bottle of Asti
In the fridge for me
If so, I might have a glass
Or three
The snooze was nice
It was good to enjoy the
Warm summer sun
I’ll get in the laundry because it’s done
Then I’ll have a cold drink
And a delicious Belgian bun
It’s then typing up for me
Of some, if not all, of my poetry
And the best thing is
I get to sit in the garden
With more fizz
I even get chance to
Absorb even more ideas
Because they could be
Tomorrow's writing
Of poems for you to read
I can also watch all the repeats of
Birds, bugs and beasties
Playing merrily
There is always something
To do, view and be
Whether it’s gardening, household
Or just plain poetry
With the typing and uploading
Onto ColourMine enjoyably
Recording my thoughts
And some of my possible
Embarrassments for free
But that’s just a small part
Of you getting to know me
Now having been
For about an hour
Off of my feet
Time to go
Fix some food for tea
Then check on ColourMine
Late in the Day
I hope you have plenty to read
Whilst you sit
After your long, hard-working day
With your well-earned
Perusal through ColourMine
And your boring whiskey
Whilst I sit here with a cup of tea,
Adding some snippets
On ColourMine, to hopefully
Encourage you to open up to
How brilliantly amusing normal
Everyday tasks can be.
