Enjoyable cream tea here | This is smiles, wildlife, love

The Fish Farm Was Enjoyable

This is a poetic reflection on a beautiful afternoon spent at Hawkhurst Fish Farm with the enjoyable addition of swans, scones, and even a mucky green lake full of character.

The Fishery, it is so nice here,
Having a couple of hours away
Had a drive down to Hawkhurst
So, we could watch
The swans, ducks and fish play

The aim was for a nice cream tea
Which actually included coffee or tea
With a scone, jam and cream
And as usual it was a fabulous treat

The drive here was a bit hectic today
But I’ve got to say
It was worth it to see
The tranquil scene that met us
When we got through the gate

Of the Waterside Café on the banks of
The Hawkhurst Fish Farm
The view was absolutely great
What made it even better was
We were so close to that
Delightful confectionary on a plate

That arrival was so lovely
It was a brilliant thing to do
I’m so glad we found this place
And it’s even better that it does food

Sitting in the refreshing breeze
Beside the huge lake you see
Is one of the best experiences for me
Watching the fish down below,
Not that you can see very much
Because the visibility is extremely low

There’s always swans gliding, looking so serene
And several different types of wild ducks
All scooting about in front of me
It’s still a lovely peaceful scene
Even though the water is quite a mucky green

Watching for Fish is Enjoyable

We sat and watched the several rings appear
Just before the huge carp came up to see
The ugly feckers staring down at the surface
Waiting to say hello before he quickly
Dived back down below

It was so enjoyable to see
Everything meandering so gently
The ducks paddling back and forth
Enjoying the donated food
It was thrown by the people beside me

They’d bought it from the little shop
That is just next door
Those greedy ducks wanted some more
After we’d finished our tea
We also went to the shop

But not for feed, oh no
We went to have a look in the tanks
Where the fish breed
There’s lots of fish, all different sizes
From huge to tiny small fry

With not a care in the world
They all swim by
It’s a super way to spend an afternoon
Letting time drift and the waters sigh

Well, that’s it for me
I’ve had an enjoyable visit
And of course, my gorgeous cream tea
And it makes a change
To miss the local takeaway
Being brave by driving miles and
Trundling down here
Even if it’s just once a year
