Written by Susan Lane
ColourMine is Susan Lane’s living archive of poetry—where reality meets fantasy, truth dances with tale, and every verse is a spark. Whether original or enhanced, this is not Rapunzel’s tower. This is mine.
ColourMine or Rapunzel
No dyes, extensions, or any of that kind
The truth of human reality is mine
I brush my hair, I take my time
I know it’s slow but it is fine
There’s not much that I can do
My hair is so long and it’s knotted too
I think it must be the man in his dreams
Running his fingers through it endlessly
Doesn’t he realise that for me
It’s damned irritating because
He I haven’t seen
He makes such a mess then without delay
He’s up and off to work for the day
I don’t see or hear from him
Ever, all day through
Not even a “hello” or “is that you”
But you never know
Maybe
Likely? No, Not Me
We shall meet, possibly,
This week, unexpectedly
Although I find that pretty unlikely
And hard to believe
If we did, what would I do
Probably freeze and not be able to move
It would be such a shock you see
Because I’ve been alone so long and
Even though it doesn’t bother me
Just the thought of being close
To another human
I’m not sure that’s for me
I’d probably prefer a cold Asti
Or maybe a cup of tea, hehe.
Looking for Fun
Well, another day has begun
And here I am looking for fun
Fun for me is innocent you see
Just trimming a hedge and
Cutting back elderberry
I don’t need to cut the grass you see
because I did that yesterday
The grass didn’t take too long
I took a chance you see
Once the morning dew burned off
End of the ColourMine Day
Then it was time for me
To get rid of the excess before winter
Glad I got that sorted quickly
Once everything was stowed away
A quick shower and clothes changed
Then I sit on the swing
Watching the grass recover slowly
Whilst I sip on a glass of Asti
I brush my diligently
Let it dry in the slight heat and breeze
Effortlessly
Now, everything is done
It’s time for something to eat
Quite possibly salad, potatoes and some meat
Or maybe I’ll have a treat
Of walnut cake with some cream
And a cup of tea, hmmm
Sounds good to me
