ColourMine Discovery and Creativity that is Open to Everyone
Written by Susan Lane
As the creator of ColourMine, a website for poetry
I’m an ordinary person - an author who writes poems
I write them in a free way, you can too, just wait and see
Consider all the things you have done or seen
Or even the many places you have been
You never know, my life struggles may help you
They may be similar to what you yourself have been through
I’ve learned the hard way, not to give in
It’s been a tough road, but now I’ve found a way in
Parts of my life you can see are written in poems
And are all an expression of me
My life on occasion has been full of challenge and grime
Writing my poems has made life easier for me
It’s made me view my life different today
I now allow the anger less sway and find more purpose each day
Would you believe, since writing poems I’ve found a
Much better version of the same person
And the good news is I’m even better, more pleasant for my friends and family
I would love for you to see that you can also be
A brilliant person who loves writing, even if it’s just jotting like me
That’s the beginning of your path for you, just write a few words
That mean something to you, a little every day
Then you’ll see that you’ve started to lay a bit of your own special pathway
ColourMine Ideas time . . .
Maybe describe the things that you do, the colours you see
The smells too. Perhaps you live next to a railway line
And hear the trains go toot toot toot
Or next to a zoo with all the lions, snakes or cockatoos
You might live next to a stream, where you hear the trickling of the water
Maybe you might hear and possibly see fish jumping too
Give any object a personality, perhaps it wants to run and be free
It can be your fantasy making it climb a tree
Consider the colour, the type or size you want everything to be
Write about when you were young, what you wanted to be
Maybe royalty, a fireman or an author of poetry
With your pen in hand, think of all that you can do
The probabilities are endless for airing your truth or your view
Make the decision to begin the rest of your life right here
Then sit back with a notepad and pen, and a beer
If you’re considering writing like me, expressing yourself in a way that’s free
Start with a title, a word, a paragraph or two
You can write anything, don’t think just let it flow through
A book or a poem is yours to behold, maybe you’ll even get it sold
It could be a best seller if you get my gist, so, hurry up and put it on your to do list
Suggestions . . .
You may have worked as a taxi driver or digging the road
Or even going about your busy day at home, it really doesn’t matter what you have done
It’s all part of the experience and the fun, whether good or bad
You can write about it in your own way,
Describe things that have happened that day
It’s good to get it out in the open and let all your ideas run
You may have hobbies like knitting, fishing or calligraphy
Whatever you have done in your life can be an inspiration
So, write it down, play with words, nothing is out of bounds you see
It all helps with self-expression and it doesn’t matter
Whether you let yourself be known or choose anonymity
If it gives you immense pleasure like it does me
Then have a go, have a play with all that fabulous imagery
Every subject can be aired; it would be brilliant if you shared
Give voice to the way you feel, that way it keeps it real
Dump the baggage, you’ve carried all through, all that awful stuff
You have gotten so accustomed to and if you’ve never written before
Just enjoy the process, like thousands more
Enjoy this way of life, it’s quite fun, and it’s definitely for everyone
Poetry is the name of the game and inclusivity is the aim
Your view is important and worthy don’t you see
Shout it out loud, stand up and be proud, all of your experiences are valid
Enjoy ColourMine poems exclusively
Now sit back with that cup of tea, to enjoy ColourMine with me
