My New Squarespace Website
Having my poetry is an enjoyment for me.
But I thought it would be nice if I shared it, you see
It was a wonderful idea that I’d had
My previous build wasn’t bad
I’d built a website ten years before
But it wasn’t essential to do any more
So, I didn’t you know, it didn’t go live
But it was just for me,
A test of my capability
Scroll along and it’s ten years from then,
Thought I’d have another go,
With a different blend
I now have good reason you see
Because I’d like to share the poetry,
That I have written for thee and me
Well, last time it was WordPress
And it was a lot of fun
Planning and building until it was done.
This time I thought I’ll have a go
On something different because
It’s always good to star in a new show
It’s also really good for me to learn something
Other than the familiar you see
I chose Squarespace because I believed,
That despite it being a totally different place indeed
It would be a great place to share my poetry
Although once in and giving it a spin
I was thinking, could it be
That maybe this package was not for me
But I thought I’d give it a go
And hopefully, once I got into it, I would succeed.
Website Building With Squarespace
Well, one thing I noticed was
This website building is different today,
I found it a bit like Tetris play
At first it was so confusing,
I just didn’t have a clue,
And it was totally frustrating for me
Because I’d always been quite tech savvy
Never been on the threshold
Of undeniable anger, oh woe is me
But thank goodness
There was this recent invention
YouTube
Those videos were certainly good for me
They came to my rescue
Several times, I was so pleased
They showed me everything
Step by step,
How to amend and adapt
Until I was fairly adept
I watched and stopped
It was still difficult you see
Amending my page wasn’t my only difficulty
Sometimes I still got into a rage
Just trying to make sense of this “plug and play”
The next thing in the frame for me was
What kind of name should I give this
Marvellous venture that was a huge part of me
My website had started with an idea.
Lots of names were in the mix here
But there wasn't one that seemed to fit
Several ideas decided to flit
Through my brain whilst I was having a sit
I mulled it over with a cup of tea
And then, just like the kite that flew over me,
ColourMine sprang,
It made me think of all kinds of possibilities
I decided there and then if it was free
Then ColourMine was the website name for me
Life then became easier the more I understood
With Squarespace, and tea to balance my mood
Checking for Errors
I went over everything
To make sure it was all right
It went live; that was such a delight.
After all the trouble it had given me
I checked on the mobile
Hoping it looked fabulous for you to read
Being so proud in that moment
I was sure I’d be hooked
But I couldn’t believe
What my eyes were telling me
There was overlaid text
There looking back at me
I was rather put out,
A definite facepalm moment for me
So private again I checked it all out,
All now good and hopefully you’ll see
How therapeutic my poetry is for me
Well, sometimes things don’t work out
No matter how diligently
You make sure it’s all perfect.
That was so disappointing for me
To find that Squarespace was playing games
And the laptop wasn’t helping
Damned machine,
I went off to have my cup of tea
Before I slung the laptop into an abyss away from me
No, I didn’t sling it, as you can see
Because I’m still writing poems for you to read, hehe.
