The Secrets of the Solar Light: A Nocturnal Witness
A foray into the nighttime under the watchful eyes of the solar lights who stand guard in the darkness, watching over the residents of the ColourMine garden.
The Solar Lights and the Animals
I’m charged by the sun and ambient light
I am here so during the night
No-one takes fright
All day every day I’m charging away
So, I’m ready for every nighttime foray
To shine a light wherever they need
I spend my time watching the animal’s feed.
I’m here for all the animals to see
From late at night until dawn
I come on so mysteriously
It’s not only me but my brother as well
Who shines a light on this quiet dell
We’re both quite amazed
Because the animals know we are here
They wander along and make a fuss
Then bingo our light outshines their fear
The Dusk to Dawn Visitors
There are still peanuts left on the floor
The little birds dropped them and
In the morning they’ll want more
The peanuts have been left by the squirrels
Dave and Bertie, short for Bertrice, you see
They always play near my brother and me
Dave and Bertie quite often come along
And they usually bring their young son
The lady of the house opens the door
Then they’re away, scampering across the floor
The foxes arrive they’re not interested
In my brother or me
They’re only interested
In how to get through the hedge and the rebar
Because you see
They have spied next doors chickens,
That would be a fine feast for them,
Quite a brilliant idea, you see
The Cattle and the Life’s Realisations
We see the bats, who venture here too
Then there are the owls, who whoosh quietly through
There are also the cattle not far away
Lowing and moving quietly through the straw
Eating silage not hay,
Silage is chopped corn on the cob stalks
To me and you
Doesn’t sound very nice but very nutritious
Used for fattening up beef
And fortunate for the lady of the house
She cannot see, those poor animals
Preparing to be classed as feed for you and me
Her fence has been made high enough
So, she cannot see
Them strolling around their pens
Whilst she is sitting with her cup of tea
The farmer is entitled to make a living
From the excess animals, you see
And even her Trinity didn’t see
The relevance of those cattle
Near my brother and me
She would have been devastated
If she had understood
Final Conclusion
What the farmer did with their livelihood
That soon they would be on our table
In restaurants and café’s
Ready for you and me to feast on
Oh, woe is me
Now where is my cup of tea?
