Dandelion: Suspect under sun and not laughing at nifty ending
The Dandelion That Defied Me
The trial and tribulations of garden maintenance in rural Kent, UK. With defiant weeds, a hungry lawnmower and a frustrated Lady of the House.
I don’t believe it, it’s only been a week
Since I mowed the grass
Or should I say weeds
There’s more of them today
Than grass anyway
There I go, I trundle around
Making sure I cover the ground
The weeds don’t stand a chance you see
This mower is pretty feisty
By the time the mowing comes to an end,
I’ve got to admit
In this heat I’m almost spent
Between 26 and 32 degrees
It really is too hot for me
It’s alright I’m almost done,
Just letting the mower cool right down
Having a drink of fridge cooled water, you see
So pleased to have tidied all the weeds
I’m glad that’s it for another week
Sipping a drink on the swing
Perusing such a beautiful scene
It looks so gorgeous to me
It was certainly worth
That hour I spent diligently
Trundling up and down in lines,
And around shrubs, trees and vines
It looks so beautiful and green
A nice short cut,
Just like the buzzcut on a marine
It feels soft under your bare feet too
Oh dear, is that a green stain I can see
Am I turning into a hulk
Like Dr Bruce Banner, hehe
Best keep away from anything
That might threaten me
Or I could be throwing
Something into the next field
Now that could cause a scene
Shock and Horror
Talking about a scene,
Oh my God, what do I see
Is that a flippin’ dandelion
Standing proudly twenty metres away
Looking defiant and
Destroying my pristine scene
I can’t believe I missed it
When I was careful to be
Overlapping every swing
Of the lawnmower
No, it certainly can’t be
I must be mistaken
Because they were all
Big enough to be seen
I really don’t want to go
Prove what I think I can see
Just think how disappointed
I shall be,
Oh, botheration,
Well, never mind,
I’ve finished my drink
So, I’ll slink over and see
Make sure it’s only my imagination
Tricking me
Damn, bother and blast
I’m not pleased, it’s definitely
A dandelion looking at me,
Well, it was, now for another drink,
And sit on the swing.
