Sudoku | This is love of mental survival

Written by Susan Lane SLCM Keeper of ColourMine

Sudoku: Just a game, a mental de-stressor or brain exercise? What a debate for me.

Sudoku or Wordsearch

Well, in December 2025, for the absolute first time in my life
I decided to do something completely alien to me
I had done Wordsearch for years and found them fairly easy.
But I never touched Sudoku because it was too much of a challenge
There were no instructions and no-one had ever attempted it
In my family

So, although I bought a Sudoku book it stayed as pristine as on that first day
I still had absolutely no idea how to play the game
My path to Sudoku had opened up for me with 2x3 little boxes on LinkedIn
That proved at first difficult for me; I tried to figure it out.
Oh, dear me
There was a new game each day; I had a go, I didn’t shy away
I tackled each one every day, then I got brave, and decided for me
I’d play the big girls’ game with more difficulty

Every square was 3×3, inside a 9×9 grid

Some were reasonably easy; I tackled them like a kid
Others were slightly more difficult and I had to take my time
The brain started to fire more each day; some took a lot less time when I played
Who ever knew that this simple game would be so immersive and relaxing for me
Once completed it’s easy to turn the page and start another swiftly
I know the ones I had were quite easy to do but now I’m wondering
If there are bigger puzzles for me to work through

These are such fabulous games and it has given me the zest to try.
On LinkedIn there are a different couple of games
I never realised that numbers could be so enjoyable for me
These simple tasks have made it easier for me to relax
And give ColourMine more focus you see
Which means that I can zip through so much more of my poetry

But that doesn’t mean I’m going to flood you with everything

It just means that I can focus and get through lots more typing.
So that I can bring it early to you
I can make each day more structured for a better view
Like mental blocks have been removed,

And for me

Well, now it’s time for me to nip off and grab a cup of tea
Go sit on my swing seat to mull over all that I’ve seen
And to have one more play at my Sudoku game before I yet again
Tackle more that’s lacking in ColourMine’s frame
So, let’s see what I can do with this game of Sudoku
I’m almost certain it will be one of the most challenging things for me
And it’s still not the end of January
Now I’d best grab a cup of tea before it goes cold on me
