Settees in Waiting
Settees: The lady of the house purchased some lovely settees and covered them diligently for their own protection against her furry companions’ claws and teeth, even though they at first didn’t recognise this selfless act to preserve their almost pristine condition over the course of a couple of decades of everyday usage. They soon come around . . .
Why Cover Us
Why does she cover us so diligently,
Doesn’t she know we’d like to be free
Since she chose us,
Surely, she knows we are beautiful to see
We are such a lovely cream leather
With a gorgeous frame
We were really expensive
Way back in the day
Now we reminisce all day long
For the day to belong
I know we’re out of the sun
But all we do is look glum
It’s such a shame, we look so fine
With the walls of dark peach and cream
Doesn’t she remember that was her dream,
She got us to enhance her gleam?
The Other Option
Oh, now I see why she covered us
Once she got us indoors
Boy those dogs have got
Some pretty big sharp claws
They’d dig us and
Spoil our beautiful finesse
If they had their way
We’d sure look a mess
Our leather looks fine,
I’m glad we’re not free
We wouldn’t look so good
With lots of holes and scratches
From claw marks, and possibly teeth
I won’t complain any more,
Not today at least
I’m going to leave it for now you see
Settees Would Love to be On Show
But just between you and me,
Conspiratorially
I’m quite certain you see and
Much better if it could be
Just the lady of the house and us,
No furry companions
With all those claws and teeth
When one goes
Another one arrives you see
Every so often she gets out the cream
And cleans us you see
Because just occasionally
The covers slip
And we get covered
In dust, dander and dog goo
Oh, that’s disgusting
I can’t believe those animals
Are so awful to either of us
Oh, wowee,
I’m just pleased
We get cleaned
So, our leather looks bright
Fully refreshed including stitched seams
And the wood polished so it gleams
We still look posh
Although a little tired and worn
We still have time to be
Used occasionally until dawn
For the lady of the house to
Write all her poems and drink her tea
Enjoying her free time
So, she can upload to ColourMine
Whilst she drinks and feasts
Maybe in the Future
With her new man
Well, wouldn’t that be a treat
If ever he manifests
To sit on us here
But we already know thats not likely hehe
