Reminisce: A day of memories enjoyed then surpassed by grief, but still available to be relived evermore.
Time To Reminisce After Grief
I’m still amazed at the things I have learned to do
Over several decades
And all of it to be in this place
Writing poems for me and you
Some are explanations
Lots are facepalm moments
That I see
A case of what did I just do
But that’s all me, what an idiot,
But everything is true
It’s always good though
That I can laugh at me for you
Everything is a learning point for me
And to top it all there’s lots more
You haven’t seen
The things that inspired the laughter
And the grief
The times in the garden with family
All having a laugh at our own stupidity
And familiarity
The times we pulled together
To make sure that everything green
Was nicely sorted so we could enjoy
The grandchildren climbing the tree
They also enjoyed the swing
A bit more roughly than me
And they sat in buckets
Now that was a funny sight to see
They played with the ball
Until the dogs took it hostage
And ran around free
They wouldn’t give it back, hehe
Grandad did the barbeque
Everyone gathered around
All full of alcohol
Except for the kids
They had soft drinks or water
And plenty of salad and crisps
Everyone had a brilliant day
It only took minutes
To clear the paddling pool away
We tidied up
They all went on their merry way
I’m so glad we all had such a wonderful day
Because it wasn’t that long
Before grandad went on his way
But at least he enjoyed
Such a fabulous family day
And even though I didn’t get to say goodbye
Because no-one, including me
Realised
That would be his final day
Reminisce – We still have those memories
That we can replay
So, here I sit with my cup of tea
On the swing, moving gently
Reminiscing on everything
That he was going to do
When he was well enough
But guess what,
Yes, you know it
None of that is going to be done
But now I get to do
All the things that over the years
I was trained to do
Including writing all these poems
Which ColourMine has brought to you
With love and care
Plenty of tea
And of course, the obligatory
Bottle of supermarket Asti Spumante
Note pad and pen
My AssTea is such a gem
No apologies, just everything
Gradually written down
Now for that cup of tea
It’s almost gone cold
With me reminiscing
About love and grief
Sitting quietly on my swing seat
