Written by Susan Lane
I’m so lucky to have this rescue dog here
She’s good company any time of year
And is really good for me
Even lets me know it’s time for a cup of tea
She lets me know when it’s time for bed too
Is brilliant if I’ve got the flu
She lets me sleep all day through
Making sure I feed her and the others too
I always know if she has something to tell me
She gets her bum off the settee
And pads around clippetty clip
Almost like she’s walking on her nail tips
Then I ask her what she wants to do
I know that’s weird but lots of people do
Depending on what she’s trying to tell me
And how she responds to the question you see
Sometimes the way for her to tell me
About what’s to come
Is just to bang her tail on the floor like a drum
It’s that simple and effective you see
But positively annoying for me
Although she’s practiced and perfected
What she wants to do and
Every code she needs
To get what she wants as soon as possible from me
All her codes, I’m just learning you see
Even though they’re actually not new to me
It’s just the understanding I haven’t gotten completely
And that’s because even after all these years
I’m still in training to be
Her very own dog whisperer for the rest of her eternity
Noisy Dog Intrusion
When she clatters her nails on the floor
To waken me up so I let her out the door
It’s like she’s now found her voice, just like me
ColourMine seems to have had the effect of
Beginning a new exciting beat
But I’m glad my rescue dog is here
To see everything through with me
And life here is better than
That she had previously
There’s not a lot of difference you see
Because no matter what it is
I’m always totally busy
Quite often she repeats it once again
And me? I know the score especially at 2 am
It’s not a toilet she must desperately do
There’s a local fox come around looking for food
Or, it’s nextdoor’s dog come into the garden for a pee
But if I don’t listen and act quite soon
I know, as do you, it could be dire for me
If I actually ignore her very noisy plea
So, best not to mind cos the alternative you see
If I don’t get up and let said dog out for a pee
Is to grab the kitchen roll,
And antibacterial really quickly
Because otherwise it’ll become
Really gross for me
And on that thought
I think I’ll just opt for another cup of tea
And wait for the natural eventuality
