Cat: He’s got attitude, thinks he’s in charge, shows affection – painfully
Ginger Cat – Herr Ob
This flippin’ cat, I know he’s fabulous and is settling down well with me
But really,
Just got my breakfast of Weetabix and there’s also a cup of tea waiting for me
It’s 5 am and instead of lying down quietly,
Herr Ob has decided to pudding on my legs
Gradually drawing up my dressing gown so he can see all the marks he’s left
Since he started clawing and it is beginning to get a bit ouchy for me
I reach down and reposition the hem
But that doesn’t stop him, he continues to dig his claws in
Again
He looks around occasionally at me, all wide-eyed innocence
But he’s got that calculating look I see
Then whilst I’m trying to look on my phone
To see what’s happening today
I’ve got a slight problem because Herr Ob has shoved his bum right in my face
Just what I wanted, I don’t think
With me trying to eat my breakfast,
That ginger bum with his pink star fish giving me a wink.
Oh, how lucky can I be, him being so affectionate and it’s not even 6.15
I move my phone every which way
And that ginger bum still gets in my way
He keeps kneading with his front paws and flicks that tail at me
Then after 20 minutes he’s decided he’s had enough,
So promptly gets off and lays down beside me on my settee
I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s finally happy with me
Now I’ve got some space I can write some poems
About things that have happened to me recently
The poems they flow so easily, with me remembering all the things
The different situations, the people I’ve seen, conversations I’ve had
When in Sainsbury’s, and all that with my cat snoring gently beside me
Ears pricked up and paws curled around slightly
With all that writing, I’m so tired,
I think it’s time for a quick snooze
So that I can be fairly refreshed for another supermarket trip
It’s about time I went and got some more booze
And whilst I’m there I think I’ll grab a nice bottle of their very own Asti,
Whooptidee
Well, I didn’t get there
No Sainsbury’s so far for me
I decided to put some outdoor clothes on and grab something quick to eat
I scrolled through my phone, and had a conversation on the way
Isn’t it marvellous what phones can do today
I remember the early phones you see, when all that you could do was text and make a call
And that was so damned expensive, you didn’t want to spend long on there at all
There was no email, Google or Bing, no social platforms
Like Facebook, Pinterest, Medium or LinkedIn
There was no linking to your car way back in the day
No hands free, except for maybe a wire with an ear piece
If you were lucky that is
Although they’re still available today
Then along came Bluetooth,
Now that was a smarter way to have a conversation back in the day
But all of those things were a long time before
Herr Ob I gotta say
Although they’re not a lot of good when you’re trying to scroll or type
And there’s Herr Ob’s bum in your face,
Facepalm moment, and disgrace,
I’d best go grab another cup of tea, and maybe a slice of cake.
Sit on the swing and mull over everything.
